4 ch Beamforming software system

<System example>

Beam Forming is one of the sound visualization techniques that obtains the sound pressure distribution using the phase differece information from the sound source to the microphone, and makes it visualized with the color map.
This technique requires a lot of microphones to cover a wide area and generally tends to increase the size of the system. By this Beam Forming system, Ono sokki achieved real time sound source visualization with just 4 microphones.

Features

  • Measurement in wider analysis frequency
  • Sound source searching from 500 Hz to 8 kHz* (*recommended analysis frequency)

  • Visualizing Sound Source using only 4 microphones
  • Finds out the sound source location accurately by new calculation method of BeamForming using merely 4 microphones.

  • Real-time monitoring of sound source (20 times/sec.)
  • You can monitor the occurring sound in real-time. Having good performance of follow-up, you can visualize various sounds including transient sound as well as stationary sound.

  • Short-distance object measurement by a camera with wider viewing angle
  • The measurement from close to a target produces less reflection waves and less environmental influences including noise, making it easier to detect the sound and vibration signals. You can grasp sound source position with this system, even in an environment where sound source visualization had been difficult up to now.

Application of Sound Source Visualization System

Measurement system for Sound Source Visualization

Sound Source Visualization system includes the latest FFT Analyzer DS-3200 series Data Station as a measurement unit and Sound Source Visualization Probe Microphone (MI-5420A). BF-3200/BF-0310 and OS-2000 series are used as analysis software.

Examples of measurement

Wide variety of sensor connection allows expanding analysis (up to 8 input channels)

Software

Two kinds of software the Sound Source Visualization System includes

You can select software according to your needs. For basic application including BF-3200 (BF Monitor) is helpful for easy and quick on-site measurement. Adding optional BF-0310 (BF Offline Analysis) allows further analysis by various functions, such as changing number of color map division screens, visualization in narrow band, and smoothing. (OS-2000 series required separately)

Measurement Example

Time Sequence Analysis of Vehicle Door Closing Sound

The sound generated closing a door contains various sounds such as low frequency band sound of 500 Hz or less, latch sound more than 1 kHz etc, and is heard as mixed sound while shifting the timing in 10 ms increments. 4ch Beam Forming System allows the sound source visualization of each sound.

Monitoring the sound in real-time using the BF-3200

By the BF-3200 (BF Monitor), you can monitor the sound source position in real-time, which updating speed is more than 20 fps and be able to follow the sound even for transient sound In this case, you can see the sound source of the door closing sound is shifting in the following order; latch → door surroundings → ground

Further analysis using the BF-0310 Offline Analysis

The recorded data can be analyzed offline by BF-0310. You can grasp the sound source position watching with other analysis results. Time waveform and the result of frequency analysis show that the sound pressure is increased at A and B, from 1 kHz to 2.5 kHz. Performing sound source visualization focusing on these timing and bandwidth, it shows A is latch sound, and B is door hitting sound.

By further analysis to the time and the frequency, you can grasp from where part and which band the sound is generated, even the sound heard as single sound by human ears. 4ch Beam Forming Sound Source Visualization System will help to find the solution, giving some hints to improve the sound quality, such as changing its design etc.
