I recommend you to set the VE series Gap Detector as vertical as possible to the target measurement object.

 

If the VE series Gap Detector is inclined, the measurement error will occur. When the VE sensor is inclined, the electric force line cannot reach straight to the target measurement object and the surface measurement area of the object has changed. Therefore, the gap measurement value becomes smaller and the thickness of the measurement value becomes larger than the actual value. The following chart shows the example of the error appearance of the difference of a gap with the VE sensor inclined. The error doesn’t appear that much when the gap value is more than half of the measurement range, but it appears dynamically when the gap value is less than half of the surface measurement range. According to this, it is important to set the sensor as straight as possible to the target measurement object.
