As an abnormal sound when you turn a
steering wheel, the noise from steering pump or the
vibration of parts friction is one of the possible
causes. For an inspection before delivery, the operator
actually turns the steering wheel and makes
judgment to hear the generated sound by attaching
the jig to the pump. This example shows how to detect
the abnormal sound from vibration with the VC-3200
vibration comparator by mounting the sensor on the
measurement object. The VC-3200 enables the detection of
vibration which you want by band pass filter and
quantitative judgment by level judgment. It
greatly helps to ensure the stable products in quality.
Because of the structure of pump, there is some timing
when the abnormal sound is generated. The VC-3200 has a
function to control the timing in order to measure the
abnormal sound by using gate signal.

The VC-3200 can be setup three kinds of
frequency band and make Pass/Fail judgment of each band
based on the rms, peak or power averaging calculated
value (same for all bands). Also it
has comparator delay time setting functions and auto
operation function. The comparator delay time setting
function removes the unwanted signal at the time of
starting measurement and the auto operation function can
control the timing of judgment by inputting a
control signal from external device such as PLC*.
Although the VC-3200 can be operated by 24VDC (22 to
26VDC) as standard, you have an alternative to use it at
100 VAC by connecting the optional AC/DC convertor
VC-0352.

Connecting the VC-3200 to a PC via RS-232C
interface enables storing the measured data and so on.

By connecting a pair of commercially sold
headphones to the VC-3200, it is possible to make
hearing check of the vibrating sound. Moreover, it can
be used instead of conventional stethoscopic probe.
Output signals are provided for each band, enabling an
observation for vibration phenomenon on each frequency
band.
