The measurement mode and the comparator function of the VC-2100

The VC-2100 vibration comparator is provided with four measurement modes, RMS, PEAK, MAX HOLD and PEAK HOLD, and the measurement mode can be switched with the MODE key and displayed on the screen. The comparison is made by the value (displayed measurement mode) which is displayed on the screen. In addition, it is possible to setup the display and comparator measurement modes independently.

Also, each measurement mode can be set the frequency bandwidth limits (band-pass setup). For the operating method, please refer to the simplified operating procedure.

Measurement Mode

Overview of each measurement mode is as follows.

1. RMS (effective value)

Displays the maximum value of effective value in 0.5 seconds interval. It repeats the measurement in measurement time of 0.5 seconds.

2. PEAK

Displays the maximum value of absolute value of the time axis waveform in 0.5 seconds interval. It repeats the measurement in measurement time of 0.5 seconds.

3. MAX HOLD

Holds and displays the maximum effective value within the measurement time. In the MAX HOLD mode, vibration display value is held, but the bar graph is not held. In addition, to cancel the max hold value, press reset key (RST), or input the reset signal to the terminal block on the rear panel.

4. PEAK HOLD

Holds and displays the maximum peak value of the absolute value which is within the measurement time. In the PEAK HOLD mode, vibration value is held, but the bar graph is not held. In addition, to cancel the max hold value, press reset key (RST), or input the reset signal to the terminal block on the rear panel.

Comparator function

There are manual and automatic operations for each measurement mode of above (1) to (4).

1. Manual operation (MANU operation)

When operates in the measurement modes of (1) RMS or (2) PEAK, maximum value is repeatedly in 0.5 seconds interval which is shown as follows, and while update displaying that value, judges the value with the comparator function whether it exceeds the setup value or not. Once the NG judgment is determined, the comparator output is held and displayed until the reset is operated. (The NG judgement is not turned OFF without the reset operation, even if the display becomes lower than the setup value.)

Reset → 0.5 seconds measurement → Maximum value display → 0.5 seconds measurement → Maximum value display update (first time judgment end) → Reset (second time judgment start)

The measurement and judgment of above are repeatedly operated.

When operates in the measurement modes of (3) MAX HOLD or (4) PEAK HOLD, there is no measurement time interval limit, such as 0.5 seconds for (1) RMS or (2) PEAK measurement mode, and judge the instantaneous value at any time. Once the value exceeds the setup value and NG judgment is determined, it is held and displayed until the reset is operated.

Reset → MAX HOLD/ PEAK HOLD (first time judgment end) → reset (second time judgment start)

Temporary interruption, resets

When operates in the manual operation, it is possible to pause the measurement by pressing the ENT key. (There is no input function from the terminal block) PAUS is displayed on the screen. When press the ENT key again, the pause is cancelled.

To reset the operation, press "RST" key (reset key) of the front panel, or input the reset signal to the terminal block on the rear panel.

2. Automatic operation

When operates in the automatic operation, the measurement or measurement cancellation are possible to control by the ON/OFF of the GATE signal. (Gate signal is inputted from the terminal block of the rear panel.)

Once the NG judgment is determined, it is held and displayed until the reset is operated, which is as same as the manual operation. Please use the following sequence for the comparator which uses GATE.

Reset → GATE ON (measurement/ judgment) → GATE OFF (reading judgment) → Reset (second time judgment start)

In above measurement modes of (1) RMS or (2) PEAK, the measurement value becomes as follows due to the timing of the GATE.

• When the GATE time is 0.5 seconds or less: Displays the maximum value within the period of gate time when the GATE is turned OFF

• When the GATE time is 0.5 seconds or more: Displays the maximum value of every 0.5 seconds interval in order.

• Compare and judge whether the maximum value exceeds the setup value or not.

When operates in the measurement modes of (3) MAX HOLD or (4) PEAK HOLD, there are no measurement time interval limits such as 0.5 seconds for (1) RMS or (2) PEAK measurement modes, and judges the instantaneous value at any time to display the maximum value. Once the NG judgment is determined, the comparator output is held and displayed until the reset is operated.

Reset → MAX HOLD/PEAK HOLD (first time judgment end) → reset (second time judgment start)
