How to use properly the displacement output of digital and analog?

There are two systems for the displacement output for the LV-2100 Laser Interference Displacement Meter, an analog output and a digital output. Each displacement output has a feature in output form, and can be used for different purposes in accordance to the use.

 

Analog displacement output

 

Advantage The real-time measurement is possible by continuous output of detected displacement as the voltage (V). It is voltage output, so the various observing devices can be used. The signal processing is also possible by the analog device.
Disadvantage When the amplitude is increased, the change of the measurement range is necessary and the resolution will be changed. There is a limitation for the cut-off frequency of 100 kHz (-3 dB).
Use Continuous amplitude observation and recording (FFT analyzer, oscilloscope and recorder).
Synchronous observation with other voltage signal. (Operating signal: Working amplitude)

 

 

Digital displacement output

 

Advantage The change of the range is not necessary when the amplitude size is changed (large/small). The displacement observation is possible to operate with the resolution of 0.155 nm even if the amplitude is large. It is possible to operate the FFT frequency analysis of 390 kHz and sampling of maximum 1 MHz. There is no signal deterioration by the analog circuit.
Disadvantage It is necessary to prepare the optional software for data capturing*. All of the analysis is off line analysis. The sampling point is 65535 (MAX) and the recording time will become shorter during the high speed sampling (around 18 hours to 65 ms). Synchronous observation with other signal is difficult.
Use Minute displacement observation with the large amplitude or offset.
Secondary processing by the software.
Displacement converted to velocity or acceleration*.
High frequency FFT analysis (maximum 390 kHz)*.
