Is it possible to measure the shape with the LV-2100 Laser Interference Displacement Meter?

The LV-2100 Laser Interference Displacement Meter cannot measure the shape or thickness like the triangulation type laser displacement meter.

 

The LV-2100 Laser Interference Displacement Meter continuously counts the interference fringe, which is changed by the amplitude of target measurement object to obtain the displacement. This method (Fringe count) enables to obtain the resolution of Nm or less with limited restriction for the operation distance, and it is a big advantage for this unit. On the other hand, it cannot measure the step or thickness which can be measured by the distance measurement system.

 

The triangulation type laser displacement meter is distance measurement displacement meter, so it enables to measure the step. It obtains the displacement by measuring the distance between the sensor and the target object. On the other hand, it cannot provide both detection distance and resolution, and it is inferior to the LV-2100 in the frequency characteristics. So it is not suitable for vibration analysis or displacement detection which is required to follow the dynamic movement.
